Before your appointment

Tap any topic below for medical aid rules (including SAMWUMED & POLMED), what to wear, previous scans, and urgent red-flag symptoms.

Medical Aid & SAMWUMED / POLMED Rules Medical Schemes
  • Bring your valid medical aid membership card and South African ID or passport to reception.
  • We accept most South African medical schemes (Discovery Health, GEMS, Bonitas, Momentum, Bestmed, Medihelp, Medshield, Bankmed, Sizwe Hosmed, UKZN, and Sasolmed) subject to available out-of-hospital or savings benefits.
  • SAMWUMED Members: Please obtain a GP referral letter prior to your chiropractic consultation, as SAMWUMED requires a doctor's referral for claim reimbursement.
  • POLMED Members: Chiropractic benefits are covered on the POLMED Marine option; please verify your active benefit allocation before attending.
Previous X-Rays, Scans & Reports Diagnostic Records
  • Bring copies, digital links, or radiologist reports of any previous spinal or joint X-rays, MRI scans, CT scans, or diagnostic ultrasound investigations.
  • Bring referral letters or clinical summaries from your general practitioner, orthopaedic surgeon, neurologist, or physiotherapist if you have been co-managed.
  • Note the approximate dates of any previous road accidents, workplace injuries, sports traumas, or spinal/joint surgeries.
What to Wear & First Visit Assessment First Visit Assessment
  • Wear comfortable, flexible clothing (such as tracksuits, leggings, shorts, or a loose t-shirt) that allows unhindered spinal, shoulder, hip, and knee movement during orthopaedic testing.
  • Arrive 10 to 15 minutes before your scheduled slot to complete your new-patient clinical intake and POPIA consent documentation.
  • Be prepared to describe where your pain started, whether it radiates into the arm or leg, and which daily postures or movements aggravate or relieve it.
Dry Needling & Medication Disclosures Clinical Safety
  • Inform Dr Khumalo if you are taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication, have a bleeding disorder, or have diabetes or compromised immune function prior to dry needling.
  • Disclose if you are currently pregnant or might be pregnant so that positioning, table modifications, and needling zones can be safely adapted.
  • Eat a light meal 1 to 2 hours before your visit and stay well hydrated, particularly if myofascial dry needling is planned for deep muscle spasms.
Satellite & Pop-Up Clinic Bookings Multi-Location Access

  • Monthly outreach clinics in Empangeni, Pongola, Jozini, Ulundi, Mthatha, and Matatiele operate strictly by pre-booked appointment — always confirm exact monthly dates via WhatsApp (063 265 1223) before travelling.
Red-Flag Symptoms & Urgent Care Urgent Triage

  • Proceed to an emergency unit immediately following high-impact trauma, a severe motor vehicle collision, or a fall with suspected spinal fracture.
  • Alert Dr Khumalo promptly if you experience progressive limb weakness, unexplained fever with severe spinal pain, or sudden neurological changes.
